Tragedy has struck the Ajah area of Lagos State following the alleged killing of a 65-year-old man, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, by his gateman under circumstances that remain unclear.

The deceased, reportedly a manager with Okeyson Transport, was said to have been attacked in his residence on Sunday morning shortly after preparing to attend church.

A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident has left relatives in shock and grief.

According to the source, Nwalieze had gone downstairs to the car park area of his home, where spare parts from his vehicles and a solar panel were kept, when the attack occurred.

Concern arose after family members noticed that none of his vehicles had been moved and repeated calls to his phone went unanswered.

Suspicion later fell on the gateman after he reportedly gave conflicting accounts about the victim’s whereabouts.

“He mentioned that my father-in-law had gone out with a friend, but when that friend was contacted, he said he hadn’t seen him,” the source said.

The gateman was said to have fled shortly after, prompting a search of the premises.

The victim’s lifeless body was eventually discovered in one of the flats within the compound, bearing multiple machete wounds to the head and body.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

At the time of the incident, other members of the household, including his wife, daughter, and domestic staff, were reportedly upstairs and unaware of what had transpired.

The case has been reported to the Lagos State Police Command, which has commenced an investigation and launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.

As of the time of filing this report, police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
