The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has successfully rescued 14 passengers abducted by suspected sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.

The joint operation, described as intelligence-driven and coordinated, followed sustained surveillance and targeted actions on identified criminal flashpoints within the maritime corridor.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operatives mounted pressure on the suspects, leading to the safe release of all the victims without any loss of life.

The rescued persons are currently receiving medical attention and undergoing debriefing before being reunited with their families.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the synergy between security agencies, noting that the operation highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling organised crime.

He added that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the perpetrators, assuring that they will be brought to justice.

The command also assured residents and maritime users of increased security presence along the waterways, urging the public to provide timely intelligence to aid ongoing operations.

Authorities further warned criminal groups operating in the area to desist from illegal activities or face coordinated enforcement action.

The rescue operation comes amid renewed efforts by security agencies to curb piracy and other violent crimes along Nigeria’s coastal and inland water routes.
