2027: Bamidele, Kalu, Yari, others listed as Tinubu moves to reward loyal Senators with automatic tickets

Strong indications have emerged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is favourably disposed to granting automatic Senate tickets to a select group of lawmakers ahead of the 2027 general elections, in what is being described as a strategy to preserve stability in the National Assembly.

The move is said to be in recognition of the lawmakers’ roles in sustaining cooperation between the legislature and the executive, as well as their support for key government policies and reforms.

The development was reportedly hinted at by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, during a meeting with political stakeholders in the state.

According to sources, Governor Idris disclosed that the senators being considered include Adamu Aliero, Abdulaziz Yari, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.

Others reportedly mentioned are Yahaya Abdullahi, Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar, Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Danjuma Goje, and Adetokunbo Abiru.

Governor Idris was said to have argued that the lawmakers have played stabilising roles in the Senate and contributed to smoother executive-legislative relations under the current administration.

He added that retaining experienced legislators would help sustain policy continuity and institutional balance as the government advances its reform agenda ahead of 2027.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency or the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the report has already sparked discussions within political circles, especially among aspirants preparing for the next election cycle.

Political observers note that if the arrangement is formalised, it could significantly reshape internal party dynamics and intensify competition in states where fresh contenders are already eyeing Senate tickets.
