Zenith Bank has announced the retirement of its founder and Group Chairman, Jim Ovia, following the expiration of his tenure in line with regulatory requirements.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the bank said Ovia stepped down after completing the mandatory 12-year period as a non-executive director and chairman, as stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) corporate governance guidelines.

The bank noted that his exit marks compliance with established regulatory standards governing leadership tenure in the Nigerian banking sector.

Ovia, who founded Zenith Bank, has been a central figure in its growth and expansion into one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions.

The statement did not immediately announce his successor.
