“GCFR” – FG corrects official title Of President Tinubu
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has clarified the correct official appellation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following what it described as recurring errors by some organisations and media outlets.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Mr Yomi Odunuga.
According to Odunuga, the statement was personally signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
He said Akume urged the media and members of the public to verify official titles before publication in order to avoid embarrassing and avoidable mistakes.
“For the record, the correct and official appellation is: ‘His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’,” the statement read.
The OSGF further advised that official verification could be made through its communication channels, including its social media platforms and official email address.
According to the statement, the clarification became necessary after an error was observed in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a national newspaper on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
Odunuga explained that the SGF noted such lapses could easily be avoided through proper verification from authorised official sources before publication.
