18 APC govs pass vote of confidence on Uzodimma amid leadership rumours
No fewer than 18 members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), the umbrella body of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, amid reports of an alleged leadership change within the forum.
The governors reaffirmed their support for Uzodimma during a closed-door meeting held on Friday at the Imo Lodge, dismissing speculations that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, had emerged as the new leader of the forum.
The rumours had surfaced Thursday night after claims circulated that some members of the forum announced Mbah as the new chairman, a development that generated political reactions within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governors present at the meeting included those from Ondo, Kaduna, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue and Jigawa States, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor. Taraba State Governor was also reported to have attended briefly before leaving after meeting with the host governor.
Moving the motion for the vote of confidence, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, declared that Uzodimma remains the authentic chairman of the forum, while Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, continues as deputy chairman.
“We don’t have any problem to justify what they have said. So, I want to seek this opportunity to move a vote of confidence on our chairman and his deputy,” Idris stated.
Speaking further, Uba Sani described reports of division within the forum as unfortunate and misleading, insisting that APC governors remain united and fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We all woke up to that unfortunate story circulating across media platforms, but the truth is that the APC Progressive Governors Forum is united. We are stronger now than at any other time,” he said.
He added that the governors remain committed to supporting Tinubu’s administration and ensuring the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.
Also addressing journalists, Uzodimma dismissed speculations of internal crisis within the APC, stressing that governors elected on the party’s platform remain focused on governance, party unity and preparations for the upcoming primaries.
“Governors of the All Progressives Congress are united and fully resolved to support Mr President and ensure success in the 2027 elections,” Uzodimma stated.
The Imo governor added that the forum had resolved to intensify efforts in governance delivery, social intervention programmes and policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians ahead of the next election cycle.
