APC expels 30 members in Anambra over court cases against party

The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled 30 members for allegedly instituting court actions against the party.

The state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Valentine Iyiegbu, disclosed this on Monday after a meeting of the party’s State Executive Committee in Awka.

According to Iyiegbu, the decision was taken in line with Article 21, Subsection 5 of the party’s constitution, which provides sanctions against members who drag the party to court without exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

He explained that many of those affected are aspirants seeking the party’s tickets for National Assembly positions ahead of the 2027 elections.

“No fewer than 30 members of the APC in the state have been expelled following their litigations against the party. The party discussed those who took the party to court, and many of them are contesting for the House of Representatives tickets of the party,” he said.

Iyiegbu added that the State Executive Committee ratified the expulsions because the affected members failed to utilise all internal channels provided by the party before resorting to litigation.

He, however, noted that the members could still receive consideration if they withdrew their cases from court.

The APC spokesman further revealed that aspirants have already emerged for all 11 House of Representatives seats and the three Senate seats in Anambra State.

The party also ratified the appointment of a five-member primary election committee headed by the State Organising Secretary, Izuchukwu Okeke, ahead of the forthcoming primaries.
