I’m ready to be Peter Obi’s running mate in 2027 — Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, says he is willing to serve as running mate to Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election if chosen by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kwankwaso made the declaration during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he spoke about the growing alliance between both political figures.

According to him, he and Obi have already reached an understanding to jointly confront insecurity and stabilise the country if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria.

“Both of us, my humble self and Peter Obi, have agreed to tackle the issue of insecurity head-on to ensure there is peace and stability in this country,” Kwankwaso said.

When asked whether he would accept the vice-presidential slot if Obi emerges as the party’s presidential candidate, the former Kano governor answered in the affirmative.

“If the party decides that I should be the running mate of any candidate from the south under the circumstances, I’d be happy to work together with him,” he stated.

Kwankwaso further described the emerging alliance as one of the strongest political combinations currently available in Nigeria.

“Personally, I cannot remember any better combination, no matter how much time is given to find those who can beat us in terms of doing the right thing for this country,” he added.

Both Kwankwaso and Obi recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress after leaving the African Democratic Congress, a move that has intensified political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
