Akpabio, Uzodimma, Ndume clinch APC senatorial tickets

Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Monday secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Akwa Ibom North-West after recording victories across the 10 local government areas in the district during the party’s primary election.

According to the results announced at the end of the exercise, Akpabio polled 11,895 votes in Abak, 12,877 in Essien Udim, 9,148 in Etim Ekpo, 9,325 in Ika, 10,153 in Ikono, 12,174 in Ikot Ekpene, 8,874 in Ini, 10,062 in Obot Akara, 19,586 in Oruk Anam, and 17,328 in Ukanafun.

A total of 122,140 voters were registered for the exercise, while 121,425 accredited party members participated in the primary.

In Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma also emerged victorious in the APC senatorial primary for Imo West Senatorial District.

Williams Kayode, chairman and returning officer of the National Assembly APC Primary Election Committee in the state, declared Uzodimma winner after polling 230,464 votes across the 12 local government areas in the Orlu zone.

Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, secured 1,098 votes in the contest.

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, was equally declared the winner of Borno South poll.

Reacting to his emergence, Ndume described the development as “a victory for democracy, unity of purpose and collective commitment to the progress of Borno South.”

He appreciated the APC leadership, stakeholders in the district and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for their support.

Meanwhile, Erondu Erondu emerged winner of the APC primary election for Abia South Senatorial District after polling 16,640 votes.

His closest challenger, Nyerere Anyim, secured 5,206 votes, while Paul Ikonne got 4,099 votes and Blessing Nwagba polled 4,456 votes.

The results were announced on Monday at the APC Abia South Senatorial District primary election collation centre in Aba by the collation officer, Emmanuel Agbaeze.

Erondu won in all six local government areas of Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Aba North, Aba South, Ukwa West and Ukwa East, setting up a likely showdown with Labour Party senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, in the 2027 general election.
