A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced businessman, Prof. Chris Uba, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections following the conclusion of its internal primaries.

The announcement was made on Sunday in Abuja during the formal presentation of candidates, where the factional leadership also unveiled 29 governorship flagbearers across the country.

Factional National Chairman, Bala Gombe, said the party zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria in line with principles of equity, fairness, inclusiveness and federal character.

He explained that three aspirants initially obtained nomination forms, but two later withdrew from the race, paving the way for a consensus arrangement.

“In adherence to the principle of federal character and in accordance with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act, 2026, the African Democratic Congress adopted consensus as the method for its presidential primary,” Gombe said.

According to him, the withdrawal of the other aspirants led to the emergence of Prof. Chris Uba as the sole and duly adopted presidential candidate of the faction.

Gombe also disclosed that the party successfully concluded primaries for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections nationwide, describing the process as peaceful and transparent.

Among the governorship candidates unveiled were Muhammad Usman Shuwa (Adamawa), Idris Adamu Yanoko (Kano), Shamsudin Muhammad (Kaduna), Ibrahim Al-Ameen Gumi (Zamfara), Babagana Mala (Borno), Musliu Babadele (Lagos), and others across the six geopolitical zones.

He said the ADC remains committed to fielding credible candidates and strengthening internal democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are pleased to formally present and unveil the comprehensive list of candidates duly nominated under our platform,” he added.

Gombe further expressed optimism that the party would record success in the forthcoming elections, urging members to remain united and focused.

The ADC, founded in 2005, has continued to position itself as an alternative political platform, seeking to expand its national influence through recruitment of new members and consolidation of its structures across the federation.
