Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped the Vice-Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area in Osun State, Debo Faroumbi, along with three other residents during an attack on Ora-Igbomina community.
According to reports, the armed men invaded the town on Tuesday night, firing several gunshots into the air and causing panic among residents.
Witnesses said the attackers moved through the community before seizing four people, including Faroumbi, two Fulani women and another resident.
The incident threw the community into fear as residents fled for safety during the raid.
However, the gunmen were quickly resisted by the military stationed in the town who relentlessly pursued the assailants, forcing them to abandon three of the victims and whisk away the council officials into the forest.
Osun State Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said the police have launched a manhunt for the suspects with a view to rescuing the victim.
