Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has openly shared details about how he wants to be buried when he eventually passes on, stating that the Ekiti State Government must take full responsibility for his funeral arrangements.

Speaking in a six-minute video posted on during is celebration on Saturday, the former governor, who is marking his 65th birthday, said his body should be taken over by the state government and buried within four weeks of his death.

“Remember me for anything. And when I die, let me say this. Death is inevitable. My body belongs to the Ekiti state government… I’m delivering a letter to the governor,” Fayose stated in the video.

According to him, regardless of when he dies, the state administration should immediately take possession of his body and handle all burial plans. He added that the four-week window was to give the government adequate time to prepare.

“Let us say in another 20, 30 years, 15 years, whatever time, for the glory of God. The Ekiti state government takes over my body, and I must be buried within four weeks. Because the state might not be ready within two, three days, we allow them four weeks,” he said.

Fayose also said his children must comply with any guidelines issued by the government at the time, including dressing in their own clothes during the rites.

On his preferred final resting place, he said: “My grandmother’s home, the mother of my father, I’ve made the garden there. I should be laid to rest there. After my departure, nobody must come there again. Allow me to go. If you want to show me love, if you want to take care of me, do so now.”

In a separate 20-minute video posted by City Edge TV, juju music icon King Sunny Ade performed for Fayose during his birthday thanksgiving, where the former governor was seen dancing as he was celebrated on stage.

Several political leaders also honoured him. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, described Fayose as “a valuable friend and brother, who will never pretend about where he stands on issues,” praying that he lives long in good health.
