‘Look for another job, Rivers, FCT are for Peter Obi’ Isaac Fayose slams Wike

Nigerian businessman and political commentator, Isaac Fayose, has challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his pledge to resign if President Bola Tinubu loses the FCT and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

The minister said he would take responsibility for Tinubu’s performance in the two territories, noting that his position as FCT minister would be difficult to justify if the President failed to secure victory in the capital.

Wike stated that the presidential election was scheduled for January 16, 2027, adding that he would announce his resignation the following day if Tinubu lost in both the FCT and Rivers State.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here. If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister,” he said.

“By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT.”

Reacting in a Facebook post on Thursday, Fayose expressed confidence that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), would defeat Tinubu in both territories if the election were conducted freely and fairly.

Fayose referenced Obi’s performance in Abuja during the 2023 presidential election, predicting that the former Anambra State governor would record an even stronger showing in 2027.

“Wike, I’m telling you that Abuja is Obi. We won the last time, and this time, we will win more. APC will not get 25 percent in Abuja,” he said.

The businessman also claimed that Rivers State would support Obi, dismissing Wike’s confidence in delivering the state for Tinubu.

“Rivers State is also Obi. You are not going anywhere. Tinubu is tired; he needs to be retired so that Nigeria can move forward,” Fayose stated.

He further alleged that threats of electoral manipulation would not change the outcome of a credible election, insisting that the electorate would determine the result.

“When they try to rig, we will all see. But if it’s free and fair, they can’t get 21 per cent. Wike, Abuja and Rivers are not yours. Look for another job,” he added.

Fayose also accused some political actors of supporting Tinubu’s continued stay in office for personal interests, calling for what he described as a change in the country’s political direction.

“It is time to take our country back,” he said.

The exchange comes as political actors begin making public declarations and predictions ahead of the 2027 general election.
