The immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, has been thrown into mourning following the death of two of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a tragic road accident.

The siblings reportedly died on Saturday after the vehicle conveying them was involved in a crash along the Bauchi–Azare highway while they were returning to Bauchi from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.

They were said to have died on the spot due to the severity of the impact.

Their bodies were later taken to a hospital in Bauchi, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.

Reacting to the tragedy, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow and extended his condolences to Senator Tela and his family.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described the incident as heartbreaking, saying the loss was not only a tragedy for the Tela family but also for the entire people of Bauchi State.

He noted that the untimely death of the two young siblings had cast a shadow of grief across the state, adding that no words could truly ease the family’s pain.

The governor prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the bereaved family the strength and patience to bear the irreparable loss.

According to the statement, the funeral prayer for Mustapha and Ummi is scheduled to take place at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
