At least 15 people have been confirmed dead in a lone trailer crash at the Muslim Cemetery area along the Ogbomoso–Oko Olowo section of the Ilorin–Jebba Expressway in Kwara State.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident occurred at about 2:32 a.m. on Monday and involved a DAF XF trailer with registration number GWL274XC.
The FRSC said a total of 48 male occupants were involved in the crash, with 15 killed, 17 sustaining varying degrees of injuries, while 16 escaped unhurt.
The corps attributed the crash to driver fatigue, noting that the injured victims suffered fractures, dislocations and bruises.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State FRSC Sector Commander, Kabiru Babatunde Kazeem, identified the driver as Nasiru Muhammed.
He disclosed that the injured victims were taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families through the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko Olowo in Moro Local Government Area.
Kazeem added that rescue teams continued searching for additional victims believed to be trapped beneath the trailer’s load.
He said the operation was carried out by personnel from RS8.15 Oloru and RS8.1 Kwara (Oko Olowo Outpost).
The FRSC boss said the command would intensify public enlightenment campaigns through town hall meetings with relevant stakeholders and advised motorists to avoid mixed loading, driver fatigue, and night travel to reduce road crashes.
