President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Wednesday for a two-country visit to South Africa and Angola.

In a statement on Tuesday, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the President’s first stop will be Johannesburg, where he is expected to attend the 20th G20 Leaders Summit.

After the event, he will travel to Luanda, Angola, for the AU-EU summit.

Tinubu was invited by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had also invited him to last year’s edition in Rio de Janeiro when he led the group.

The 2024 G20 Summit is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, and Sunday, November 23, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

Leaders from the world’s major economies, including the European Union, African Union and global financial institutions, will be in attendance.

This year’s theme, ‘Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability’, will guide discussions across three plenary sessions.

Delegates are expected to focus on inclusive and sustainable growth, trade, development financing, debt challenges, disaster risk reduction, climate change, just energy transition, food systems, critical minerals, decent work and the impact of Artificial Intelligence.

The visit is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s engagement with global partners and deepen cooperation on economic growth, energy security, climate action and technological development.
