Supreme Court directs final forfeiture of Emefiele’s properties
Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has suffered a major legal setback after the Supreme Court ordered the final forfeiture of his properties to the Federal Government.
In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the apex court, headed by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, overturned the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, which had earlier directed that the forfeiture case be retried.
The Supreme Court ruled in favour of the appeal, setting aside the appellate court’s decision and restoring the final forfeiture order previously issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The apex court’s decision effectively restores the final forfeiture of the assets, bringing to an end the legal challenge mounted by Emefiele against the Federal High Court’s order
