Supreme Court directs Lawyers to upload Court documents via online portal (NCMS) from September

The Supreme Court has directed lawyers handling appeals and motions scheduled for hearing between September and December 2026 to upload all relevant court documents through the Nigerian Case Management System (NCMS).

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir E. Akanbi.

According to the apex court, the directive is in line with Rule 10(1) of the Supreme Court Practice Direction, 2026.

Akanbi urged legal practitioners to review the list of cases fixed for hearing during the period by visiting the Supreme Court’s website, navigating to the Litigation section and selecting the Nigerian Case Management System (NCMS), where the hearing schedule for appeals and motions has been made available for download.

The statement further directed counsel to upload all processes already filed in their matters, including Records of Appeal, Briefs of Argument, pending motions and every other relevant court document, not later than 30 days before the scheduled hearing date.

According to the court, the directive is aimed at ensuring compliance with the Supreme Court Practice Direction, improving the effective operation of the NCMS and facilitating the speedy and efficient determination of cases before the apex court.

The Supreme Court urged all lawyers whose matters are listed within the period to comply strictly with the directive.

The development follows the judiciary’s ongoing digitalisation drive, which recently saw the adoption of electronic case filing at the Supreme Court, replacing the manual filing system.

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, announced the introduction of the Nigerian Case Management System during its official launch in Abuja, describing it as a major milestone in the modernisation of Nigeria’s judicial system.
