Mbappé makes history, Saka nets hat-trick as England clinch World Cup bronze with thrilling 6-4 victory over France
England secured third place at the FIFA World Cup after an entertaining 6-4 victory over France in the bronze medal match.
Declan Rice opened the scoring for the Three Lions before Ezri Konsa doubled the lead with a header. Bukayo Saka then struck twice to hand England a commanding 4-0 advantage at half-time.
France mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice to become the FIFA World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer while extending his lead in the Golden Boot race. Bradley Barcola also found the net before Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to restore England’s cushion.
Ousmane Dembélé grabbed France’s fourth goal late in the game, but Jude Bellingham’s seventh goal of the tournament sealed an emphatic 6-4 victory for England.
The result sees England finish the tournament with the bronze medal, while Mbappé leaves the competition with another historic milestone despite France’s defeat.
