Stop deceiving Nigerians, publish Trump’s letter to Tinubu’ — Timi Frank dares Presidency

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has challenged the Presidency to release the full version of the letter purportedly sent by United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Tinubu, insisting Nigerians should not be misled over what he described as an ordinary diplomatic correspondence.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Frank argued that the Tinubu administration was attempting to portray the letter as an endorsement of the President’s leadership, despite its reported contents relating only to security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

He maintained that any authentic communication from the American President should bear the official White House seal and President Trump’s signature.

“The letter is not from the White House. If it does not carry the White House seal and the signature of the President of the United States, then its authenticity is open to serious questions,” Frank said.

The former APC spokesman stressed that even if the correspondence was genuine, it should not be interpreted as political support for President Tinubu or his administration.

According to him, the reported contents merely acknowledged Nigeria’s partnership with the United States in addressing insecurity and did not amount to an endorsement of the President’s policies or leadership.

“The letter only commended Nigeria for cooperating with the United States on security matters. It did not endorse President Tinubu, his administration or his economic policies, nor did it suggest support for his political ambitions. The Presidency is simply trying to present it as something it is not,” he stated.

Frank also questioned the timing of the letter’s release, noting that it was reportedly dated July 6 but only became public weeks later.

He argued that if the correspondence represented a significant endorsement from the US President, it would have been made public immediately.

“By celebrating this letter, the government appears to be seeking international legitimacy and credibility. If it truly had confidence in its standing, it would not make so much of what appears to be a routine diplomatic communication,” he added.

Frank further recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari was hosted by President Trump at the White House during his first term in office.

He challenged President Tinubu to seek a similar engagement if he believed the US President held his administration in high regard.

“If President Tinubu believes President Trump is genuinely impressed with his administration, then he should visit him and stand beside him before the world, just as former President Buhari did,” Frank said.

The Presidency had earlier released what it described as a letter from President Trump, in which the US leader reportedly commended Tinubu’s administration for its efforts in combating terrorism and addressing attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria.

The letter was made public by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
