I spent eight years as Osun Governor living in a friend’s house; I didn’t own a house – Aregbesola

National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has disclosed that he lived in a friend’s house throughout his eight-year tenure as Governor of Osun State, insisting that he did not own a personal residence while serving in office.

Aregbesola made the revelation in a video shared with his supporters, where he reflected on his time in government and the principles that guided his administration.

According to the former governor, he remains the first Nigerian governor to complete two terms in office without owning a personal house.

“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” Aregbesola said.

He challenged anyone disputing his claim to provide evidence of any property allegedly owned by him during or after his tenure.

“I lived in my friend’s house for eight years as governor in my father’s land. If anyone says what I’m saying is not true, let the person come forward and show Nigerians the house I own,” he added.

Aregbesola served as Governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018 before he was appointed Minister of Interior by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reflecting on his administration, the former governor said his government focused on improving the welfare of residents through policies aimed at tackling poverty, unemployment and hunger.

He noted that his administration also prioritised quality education, improved healthcare, peaceful coexistence and infrastructure development, adding that governance should be measured by its impact on the lives of the people rather than personal enrichment.

Aregbesola maintained that public office should remain a platform for service, insisting that leaders must place the interests of the people above personal gain.
