Tinubu’s Renewed Hope has turned to Renewed Hopelessness, I’ll give Nigerians genuine hope — Obi

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has described President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a failure, saying it has become “renewed hopelessness” rather than delivering the meaningful change Nigerians were promised.

Obi made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he criticised the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy and governance, insisting that the government’s policies have failed to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Responding to a question on whether his economic vision aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Obi dismissed the comparison.

“No, no—that’s renewed hopelessness. It’s not working,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor argued that Nigerians deserve leadership that produces visible and measurable improvements in their daily lives instead of political slogans.

“The kind of hope I’ll bring is real hope—tangible hope that people will see and feel,” Obi stated.

He also criticised President Tinubu’s style of communication, accusing the President of distancing himself from Nigerians and allowing his aides to communicate on his behalf.

“It’s not even ‘audio hope’ because the man we voted for isn’t even talking to us anymore. The person we voted for is Bola Tinubu. He’s no longer talking to us; he’s gone into Aso Rock and turned it into a bunker,” Obi said.

According to him, one of the primary responsibilities of a leader is to communicate directly with citizens, explain government policies, and remain accountable for campaign promises.

“A leader’s first duty is to speak directly to the people. I will speak to the people myself. I’ll tell them: I said I would do this; this is where things stand—that’s commitment,” he added.

Obi has repeatedly criticised the Tinubu administration over the state of the economy, insecurity, and governance, maintaining that Nigeria requires leadership capable of restoring public confidence and delivering practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
