Tinubu appoints six Executive Directors for NMDPRA, seeks Senate confirmation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), seeking Senate confirmation for their appointments.
The nominations, conveyed to the Senate in a letter, comprise three serving executive directors recommended for reappointment and three new nominees. If confirmed, all six will serve five-year terms.
The nominees seeking reappointment are Abiodun Adeniji, Executive Director of Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha, Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
The three new nominees are Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa, nominated as Executive Director of Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie, Executive Director of Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib, Executive Director of Corporate Services and Administration.
President Tinubu urged the Senate to consider the nominations expeditiously, saying the appointments were intended to ensure institutional continuity and strengthen the regulatory authority’s oversight capacity.
In a related development, the President approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board/Authority and Legal Adviser of the NMDPRA.
Her appointment is subject to the completion of the statutory processes stipulated under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Tinubu had earlier appointed Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the chief executive of the regulatory agency in April.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
