Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto accused of sexual misconduct by four women

Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto has been accused of criminal sexual misconduct by four women in a new BBC investigation, with allegations spanning more than a decade.

The women, who said they encountered Leto between 2002 and 2016, alleged incidents ranging from sexual assault and statutory rape to grooming and sexually explicit communications when they were teenagers. Several of the allegations are being made public for the first time in a BBC documentary titled Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret.

One woman, identified only as Isabel, alleged that Leto sexually assaulted her in a motel bathroom in Las Vegas when she was 17 years old. She said the incident occurred after she agreed to meet the actor at what she believed was a hotel before going out with friends.

Another woman, identified as Alex, claimed she was 19 when she was invited to what she believed was a party, only to find herself alone with Leto in a hotel room. She alleged that he repeatedly made threatening sexual remarks, prompting her to leave immediately.

A third woman, Clara, alleged she had sexual relations with Leto in California when she was 17. Under California law, sexual activity between an adult and a person below the age of consent can constitute statutory rape. Clara told the BBC that Leto dismissed concerns after a discussion about the state’s age-of-consent laws.

A fourth woman, identified as Etta, alleged that Leto began making sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 after they met through a modelling agency. She claimed he asked intimate sexual questions and suggested they should have sex. Etta also alleged that she was later asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which she declined. The BBC reported that it reviewed a copy of the unsigned agreement.

The documentary also includes accounts from six additional women, several of whom alleged they received inappropriate or sexually explicit phone calls from Leto while they were young. Two former crew members with Thirty Seconds to Mars also told the broadcaster they were uncomfortable with what they described as Leto’s interactions with teenage girls backstage during concerts.

According to the BBC, aspects of several accounts were corroborated through messages, photographs and conversations with friends or relatives who were told about the incidents at the time.

Leto, 54, is a veteran Hollywood actor whose film credits include Dallas Buyers Club, Fight Club, Blade Runner 2049, Suicide Squad and the upcoming Masters of the Universe. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

The BBC said it repeatedly contacted Leto regarding the allegations but received no response before publication. The actor has not publicly commented on the claims contained in the documentary.

The investigation follows previous allegations reported by other media outlets. In 2025, several women accused Leto of sexual impropriety in an Air Mail investigation. At the time, he denied those allegations.

No criminal charges have been announced against Leto in relation to the allegations reported in the BBC investigation.
