An Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) staff member was electrocuted and burnt to death on Wednesday while carrying out maintenance work on a transformer opposite Haribina Hotel in Utako, Abuja.
Witnesses said the worker had begun repairs after the transformer feeder was reportedly opened for him, but a sudden surge of electricity occurred, causing an explosion that killed him instantly and left his body severely burnt.
Officials from the Utako NEPA office (now AEDC) and other emergency personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.
The circumstances leading to the sudden restoration of power while the technician was working are still unclear.
More to come.
