The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine and dust haze across various parts of the country from Friday to Sunday.

In its weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja, the agency projected moderate dust haze with visibility ranging from 2km to 5km over parts of Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara and Kebbi on Friday. Slight dust haze is also expected to affect Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa within the same period.

For the North Central region, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze with similar visibility levels across Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). However, residents in Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi and Kwara are expected to experience sunny conditions with patches of clouds throughout the day.

In the South, cloudy skies with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall are anticipated over Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers during the morning hours. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms and light rains are expected across Imo, Abia, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

For Saturday, NiMet projected sunny and hazy conditions over the northern region, while slight dust haze is anticipated in Niger State. Other parts of the North Central zone will witness sunny weather with intermittent cloudiness. The southern region will remain cloudy in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms likely in Delta, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River later in the day.

On Sunday, sunny skies are expected across most of the northern region. The central states will experience sunny weather with patches of cloud, while the southern region will begin the day with cloudy conditions. Thunderstorms and light rains are forecast later in the day over Lagos, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers.

NiMet advised the public to take precautions, particularly motorists driving under rainy conditions. It also warned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere across the northern states, urging individuals with asthma or respiratory conditions to be vigilant.

The agency further called on airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for safe and efficient flight planning.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather information on the NiMet website.
