NiMet forecasts dust haze, sunshine across nationwide Monday to Wednesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of dust haze and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
The agency disclosed this in its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja.
NiMet said parts of Kebbi and Kano states in the northern region would experience moderate dust haze on Monday, with horizontal visibility expected to range between two and five kilometres.
It added that other states in the northern region would see generally sunny and hazy conditions.
“For the central region, moderate dust haze is forecast over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State. The remaining states in the zone are expected to remain sunny and hazy throughout the period.”
In the southern region, NiMet predicted sunny skies with occasional cloud patches, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.
“On Tuesday, a slight dust haze is expected over parts of Kano and Kebbi States, while other northern states will continue under sunny and hazy skies.
“The central region will experience sunny and hazy conditions, with isolated thundery activity in parts of Plateau State during afternoon and evening hours.
“Southern states will see sunny skies with cloud patches, along with afternoon and evening thunderstorms in Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.”
The agency said that on Wednesday, northern and central regions would remain sunny and hazy.
“Southern areas will experience sunny skies with occasional cloud patches and prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with light rains across Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.”
NiMet warned that dust particles remained suspended in the air, urging the public, especially those with asthma or respiratory conditions, to take precautions.
The agency also advised drivers to exercise caution during rainfall and airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning.
