Shettima heads to Ethiopia for Nigeria-Ethiopia nutrition talks
The forum will bring together key stakeholders from both countries to share experiences and lessons on developing stronger nutrition policies
Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead a government-to-government exchange aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s efforts to improve nutrition delivery.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Nkwocha, Shettima is visiting Ethiopia at the invitation of the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is leading Ethiopia’s multi-sectoral approach to tackling nutrition challenges.
The Vice President is expected to participate in the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit.
The forum will bring together key stakeholders from both countries to share experiences and lessons on developing stronger nutrition policies and building effective federal, state and local government partnerships.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Nigeria to learn from Ethiopia’s approach while exploring ways to accelerate nutrition interventions across the country.
Similarly, Nkwocha said during the visit, the Nigerian team would exchange experiences with Ethiopia on how a government-led plan can improve nutrition delivery.
The presidential aide added that the delegation would tour key establishments dedicated to boosting nutrition delivery across the country.
He said some of the locations scheduled to be visited include a wheat farm and a banana plantation in Oromia; the ‘Bounty of the Basket’ Training Centre and household visits in Mojo; and Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.
Nkwocha said that VP Shettima is being accompanied by Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, and Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa.
He said also on the trip are the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari.
He said the Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Abubakar is also in the entourage of the vice president.
Nkwocha said that the vice president would return to Abuja at the end of his engagements in Addis Ababa. (NAN)
