Obi visits Air Force headquarters, signs condolence register for crash victims
Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has visited the headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Abuja to pay tribute to personnel who died in a recent military aircraft crash.
Obi disclosed the visit in a post on his official X account on Tuesday, where he said he signed the condolence register in honour of the deceased officers.
The former governor described the deaths as a painful loss to Nigeria, while expressing sympathy with the families, colleagues and loved ones of the victims.
According to Obi, the visit also gave him another opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in protecting the country.
He acknowledged the risks faced by security personnel who put their lives on the line in the course of serving and defending Nigeria.
“The visit gave me another opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made daily by the men and women of our Armed Forces and other security agencies in the line of duty.
“These courageous Nigerians put their lives on the line to defend our nation and protect our people. We must never take their service and sacrifice for granted,” he wrote.
Obi extended his condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased personnel.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” he said.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and strength for their families.
“May God grant eternal rest to the departed and give their families the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” Obi added.
He also prayed for the safety of security personnel still serving across the country.
“May God continue to protect all those who serve our country,” he said.
The visit came amid continuing tributes to the victims of the crash, with political leaders, government officials and Nigerians mourning the loss of the military personnel and other occupants.
The Nigerian Air Force has described those who died as personnel who served the country with courage and dedication.
