Ebola: Akwa-Ibom govt intensifies surveillance after confirmed case in Abuja
The Akwa Ibom State Government has heightened disease surveillance and placed its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) on alert following the Federal Government’s confirmation of an imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola disease in Abuja.
The case was confirmed on October 20, 2026, according to information from the state government, which said the move was aimed at strengthening preparedness and ensuring prompt detection of any suspected case.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare disclosed that the patient, a woman with a recent history of international travel, had been isolated and was receiving medical care.
At the time of the federal announcement, 44 contacts had been identified, while contact tracing and further investigations were ongoing.
The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health is intensifying surveillance as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s readiness to respond to any potential threat posed by the disease.
There is currently no confirmed Ebola case reported in Akwa Ibom State. The heightened alert is a precautionary measure, not a declaration of an outbreak in the State.
Residents are advised to remain calm and follow verified public health guidance.
