NCDC identifies two suspected Ebola cases in North-East Nigeria
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reportedly identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals placed in isolation as health authorities begin investigations.
According to reports, the suspected cases are undergoing laboratory tests to establish whether they have contracted the virus.
Health officials have also commenced contact tracing and the identification of individuals who may have had contact with the suspected cases as part of efforts to prevent possible transmission.
However, the NCDC reportedly clarified that identifying the individuals as suspected cases does not mean they have tested positive for Ebola. Confirmation will depend on the outcome of laboratory investigations.
The development comes amid reports of an Ebola case involving a 42-year-old Swiss woman who allegedly tested positive in Abuja on October 20, 2026, after arriving in Nigeria from Uganda.
The woman was reportedly isolated and treated by Nigerian health workers before the Federal Government evacuated her to Switzerland on Monday aboard a medical aircraft.
Her husband, who was identified as a close contact, was also reportedly evacuated to Switzerland.
The reported identification of two additional suspected cases has raised concerns about the need for continued surveillance and rapid response by health authorities.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the laboratory tests on the two individuals will determine whether the suspected cases are confirmed Ebola infections.
