King Charles removes brother’s royal privileges after fresh outcry

King Charles has moved to strip his younger brother, Prince Andrew, of all remaining royal titles and his long-term residence on the Windsor estate, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement on Thursday.

The decision follows renewed public outrage after Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s main accusers, made fresh allegations against the 65-year-old Duke of York, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Prince Andrew,” the statement read. “Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.”

Andrew has also been ordered to vacate his long-time home on the Windsor Castle estate and relocate to “alternative private accommodation.”

“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” the palace added.

The statement further noted, “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

This development comes shortly after the release of Giuffre’s memoir, where she reiterated claims that she had sex with Andrew three times, including when she was 17. Andrew had previously reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre in 2022, reportedly paying millions to resolve her civil sexual assault lawsuit.

Giuffre, a dual US-Australian citizen, died by suicide in April 2024, while Epstein had taken his life in a US prison in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex-trafficking offenses.
