Sen Jarigbe intensifies consultations ahead of formal defection to APC

Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, has begun extensive consultations with key political stakeholders in preparation for his formal defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The consultations, which started earlier in the week, aim to harmonise interests, strengthen relationships, and ensure inclusiveness among stakeholders as the lawmaker gets set to join the ruling party.

During the visits, Senator Jarigbe, accompanied by APC stalwart Hon. Dr. Gabriel Oluohu Bravo, JP, met with prominent northern leaders at their Abuja residences, including Ntufam High Chief Peter Ojie, Chief Fidelis Ugbo, Chief Wabilly Nyam, High Chief Thomas Udam, and Rt. Hon. Gabe Edi.

It will be recalled that Senator Jarigbe had earlier announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on the floor of the Senate.

Before making his move public, he had informed Governor Bassey Edet Otu and the APC State Chairman, Pol. Evg. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Esq., JP, about his decision, explaining that his switch was to support the re-election efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Otu, as well as strengthen APC’s dominance across the nation.

Speaking with State House correspondents after visiting President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Senator Jarigbe said his defection was motivated by his desire to support the President’s developmental agenda and contribute to his administration’s success.

“My coming into the APC is to support the good work President Tinubu is doing for Nigerians,” the Senator stated.

Sources close to the lawmaker revealed that consultations are ongoing across all wards and chapters within the district to promote unity and inclusion ahead of his official declaration.

During his engagements with stakeholders, Senator Jarigbe reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Cross River North, pledging to serve with renewed vision and dedication towards uniting interests for the collective growth of the district, the state, and the nation.

When he visited the APC State Chairman in Abuja, he expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and reiterated his resolve to strengthen the party in the North Senatorial District.

In response, Chairman Eba confirmed the visit, advising the Senator to continue engaging party leaders and stakeholders at all levels to build a united front anchored on the APC’s core values of Peace, Love, Unity, and Growth (PLUG).

Eba also urged party members to avoid divisive comments that could create disunity within the ranks of the APC.

Observers believe Senator Jarigbe’s defection will further consolidate APC’s influence in Cross River North and weaken the PDP’s grip in the area, with many of his supporters describing him as a “movement” and the major force in the district.
