All Enugu, One Plateau Reps abandon PDP, LP for APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday achieved a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives after six opposition lawmakers crossed over to the ruling party.
Very Nigerian reports that Five of the defectors were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the South East, while one legislator from the Labour Party (LP) in Plateau State also joined the APC.
Those who defected are Daniel Asama Ado (Plateau), Chidi Mark Obetta (Enugu), Phillips Anayo Owuegbu (Enugu), Nnaji Nnolim (Enugu), Denis Agbo (Enugu), and Matthew Nwogu (Imo).
With their defection, the APC now holds 242 seats in the House, reducing the PDP’s strength to 74 members.
In separate letters read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during Thursday’s plenary, the lawmakers cited unresolved leadership crises in their respective parties as the main reason for their decision to join the ruling party.
The event was witnessed by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and former Minister of Defence, Fedelia Njeze, among other party leaders.
