Bala Mohammed leads PDP Governors to Court ahead of Convention verdict

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Friday arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja alongside other top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the judgment concerning the party’s proposed national convention.

The case was filed by three party members, Austin Nwachukwu, the Imo PDP chairman; Amah Nnanna, the Abia PDP chairman; and Turnah George, the South-South PDP secretary, who are seeking a court order to stop the convention where new national officers are expected to be elected.

They argued that the planned convention violates the PDP’s constitution.

In August, the PDP Governors’ Forum had warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other party stakeholders against actions that could disrupt the convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.

However, the party on Monday announced the suspension of the screening of aspirants for the 2025 national convention, citing unforeseen circumstances.

“The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has put on hold the screening of aspirants for the 2025 Elective National Convention, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025, due to unforeseen circumstances,” a statement signed by the committee’s chairman and Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, read.

“A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement,” the statement added.
