AFCON 2025: Super Eagles draw Mozambique in Round of 16 (Full List)
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The fixture was confirmed on Wednesday night following Mozambique’s 2–1 defeat to Cameroon, a result that saw the Mambas finish third in Group F.
Despite the loss, Mozambique secured qualification as one of the four best third-placed teams from the group stage.
Nigeria, on the other hand, progressed to the knockout round in emphatic fashion after finishing top of Group C with a perfect record. The Super Eagles won all three of their group matches to amass the maximum nine points, underlining their status as one of the tournament’s early favourites.
The last time Nigeria and Mozambique met at the AFCON was during the 2010 tournament in Angola, where the Super Eagles recorded a convincing 3–0 victory. Peter Odemwingie scored twice in that encounter, while Obafemi Martins added a third to complete the dominant display.
The Round of 16 clash between Nigeria and Mozambique will take place on January 5 at the Fez Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00pm Nigerian time.
The winner of the encounter will progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Meanwhile, other fixtures lined up for the AFCON Round of 16 include South Africa against Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire versus Burkina Faso, Mali against Tunisia, and Egypt facing Benin Republic, as the competition enters its decisive knockout phase.
