FG discontinues criminal case against Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

The Federal Government has formally withdrawn the criminal charge instituted against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The withdrawal was contained in a notice of discontinuance filed in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, between the Federal Government and Akpoti-Uduaghan, before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The notice, dated December 12, 2025, was filed pursuant to Sections 108(1), 108(2)(a) and 108(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.

In the document, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation stated its intention to discontinue further proceedings in the matter.

The notice was signed by M.B. Abubakar, Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, alongside Aderonke Imana, Assistant Chief State Counsel, and was filed on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

Court records indicate that the notice was received and duly endorsed by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on December 15, 2025, before being certified as a true copy by the court registry on December 18, 2025.

The development comes amid ongoing legal and political controversies involving the Kogi Central senator and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Only days earlier, Akpabio disclosed that he had instructed his legal team to withdraw all defamation-related suits instituted against individuals.

Recall that in December 2025, the Senate President filed a ₦200 billion defamation suit against Akpoti-Uduaghan at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, following allegations of sexual harassment made by the senator.

The withdrawal of the criminal charge marks a significant turn in the legal disputes surrounding the matter, though related civil proceedings remain subject to further legal actions.
