BREAKING: Yahaya Bello accepts call to challenge Natasha Akpoti for Kogi Central Senate seat in 2027
Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has agreed to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, following sustained appeals from political stakeholders, traditional leaders and supporters across the district.
Bello’s decision was announced during a high-level visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he held consultations with traditional rulers, religious leaders and community elders from Kogi Central.
Sources familiar with the meeting disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo personally led the appeal, urging his predecessor to accept the request of party leaders and constituents to challenge the incumbent senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in 2027.
The appeal was said to have been made in the presence of the Ohinoyi and other influential figures from the senatorial district, underscoring the political weight of the gathering.
According to sources, Bello initially expressed reservations but eventually agreed to the request after what was described as extensive consultations and persuasion by stakeholders, who argued that his experience and political influence would strengthen representation in the National Assembly.
The former governor’s acceptance is already being viewed as a major political development in Kogi State, particularly in Kogi Central, where political realignments are gradually taking shape ahead of the next general elections.
Yahaya Bello served as Governor of Kogi State from 2016 to 2024 and remains a key figure within the state’s political structure and the ruling party, with strong grassroots support across the senatorial district.
Political observers believe his entry into the race is likely to intensify competition in Kogi Central and reshape the dynamics ahead of 2027.
