Lagos Police summon Pastor Chris Okafor over sexual misconduct allegations

The Lagos State Police Command has summoned the Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, to report at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, over allegations of multiple sexual offences, including rape, and other acts capable of disturbing public peace.

Okafor has been formally served with an invitation through his legal representative and is expected to appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID by 10 a.m. on Monday.

In a statement on Sunday, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

The statement noted that the probe would cover “capital offences and other serious crimes” and urged alleged victims and witnesses to come forward, assuring full confidentiality and protection.

“The Commissioner of Police further reiterates and assures members of the public that the identities of all victims and witnesses will be adequately protected, and that the investigation will be conducted in a professional, transparent, and unbiased manner, in line with the laws of the land,” the statement added.

Okafor had earlier publicly apologised to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who is among those making allegations against him, during a church service.

While acknowledging past mistakes, he denied several claims levelled against him but expressed readiness to make restitution to anyone he may have offended.

The controversy escalated after Ogala’s arrest and subsequent release by the police, following a dispute over an alleged broken promise of marriage.

Ogala, through her lawyers, is demanding N1 billion in damages, citing emotional distress, reputational harm, and financial loss.

Authorities emphasised that no individual would be shielded due to status, influence, or religious standing, reiterating the police’s commitment to upholding law, order, and justice.
