‘I remain committed to APC’ – Ex- Minister Badaru debunks defection rumours

Published

on

Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed reports claiming he plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress, describing the claims as baseless and purely speculative.

Checks by Very Nigerian indicate that the rumours may be linked to the lingering political tension between Badaru and his successor, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, within the All Progressives Congress.

Party insiders say relations between the two camps have been strained for some time, with allegations that loyalists of the former governor are being sidelined in the affairs of the state government and the party.

According to the sources, this perceived marginalisation has fuelled speculation about a possible defection, even though Badaru has maintained that he remains in the APC.

Our correspondent observed that the internal strife within the Jigawa APC has led to recent speculation about possible defections, with some party members reportedly feeling disillusioned and seeking alternative platforms.

However, Badaru’s swift denial of the rumours suggests he might be keen on repairing the damage and reaffirming his loyalty to the party, potentially paving the way for reconciliation efforts within the APC in Jigawa State.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists by his Media aide, Mati Ali, on Tuesday, the former minister reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress.

“I categorically state that the report is entirely false, unfounded, and a product of political mischief,” Badaru said.

The former minister emphasised that he remains committed to the APC, a party he helped found.

“My loyalty to the party remains absolute and unwavering,” he said.

Badaru urged the public and APC members to disregard the false reports.

“I remain a dedicated member of the party and have no intention whatsoever of leaving the APC,” he said.
