Defending champions Nigeria have been drawn against Zambia, Egypt and Malawi in Group C of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following the official draw conducted ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

The Super Falcons, who are 10-time winners of the continental title, will play all their Group C matches at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca as they begin the defence of their crown.

Nigeria’s clash with Zambia is expected to draw particular attention, as it rekindles memories of their emphatic 5-0 victory over the Copper Queens in the quarter-finals of the 2024 WAFCON.

Host nation Morocco, runners-up in the last two editions of the competition, headline Group A, where they will face Algeria, Senegal and Kenya. Matches in that group will be staged at the Moulay Al Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

Former champions South Africa were drawn into Group B alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Tanzania. The Banyana Banyana, champions in 2022, will play their group matches at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat and are expected to mount a strong challenge for the knockout rounds.

Meanwhile, Group D features African heavyweights Ghana and Cameroon, who will compete against Mali and Cape Verde at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.

The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, after being postponed from last year.

Beyond continental glory, the tournament also serves as Africa’s qualification pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the top four teams earning tickets to the global showpiece set to be hosted by Brazil.
