Afrobeats star Davido has lost a $50,000 bet after Nigeria’s Super Eagles were knocked out by Morocco in the semifinal of the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.

The much-anticipated encounter between Nigeria and the host nation ended without goals after both regulation time and extra time.

Morocco, also known as the Atlas Lions, later won 4-2 in the penalty shootout to secure their place in the final.

Hours before the match, Davido had taken to social media to share his bet slip, showing that he placed a $50,000 wager on the Super Eagles to defeat Morocco.

The singer’s post quickly drew attention from fans, many of whom followed the game closely as events unfolded.

Nigeria put up a strong performance but failed to convert their chances during open play and from the spot, allowing Morocco to edge ahead in the shootout and bring an end to the Super Eagles’ campaign.

The bet ultimately failed as the Super Eagles were unable to find a breakthrough during open play and fell short from the spot.

The loss also extended to popular Nigerian TikToker Peller, who revealed that he lost $3,000 after betting on Nigeria to beat Morocco within 90 minutes.

“Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well,” he said sarcastically. “I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well the previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match.

“Maybe, if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again,” he lamented during a livestream on Wednesday night.
