Heavy traffic as truck somersaults in Otedola bridge
A fully loaded truck overturned on Otedola Bridge in the early hours of Friday, spilling its contents and causing severe traffic congestion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
As at the time this report was filed, the gridlock had extended from Otedola Bridge back to the Berger axis, leaving many motorists stranded for hours.
Drivers heading into Lagos were forced to look for alternative routes, with some using a one-way movement on the outbound Lagos lane to escape the traffic.
The incident was confirmed by the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command in a post shared on its Facebook page.
According to the police, a secondary accident occurred due to the overturned truck, worsening the situation on the busy expressway.
The post read, “Two serious accidents have occurred at Otedola Bridge, inward Lagos.
“In the first incident, a fully loaded truck overturned, spilling its consignments onto the road and covering about 90 per cent of the carriageway. The second accident occurred directly behind the first crash, compounding traffic disruption in the area.
“Emergency responders have been alerted. Motorists are advised to drive with caution around the area.”
