NUJ FCT, Tayan Group explore partnership on affordable Housing for Journalists
The union appealed to Tayan Group for material, technical and construction support to fast-track its Congress Hall project.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has sought a strategic partnership with Tayan Group Construction to promote affordable housing for journalists and support the completion of its ongoing ultra-modern Congress Hall project in Abuja.
The appeal was made on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the NUJ FCT Council leadership to the headquarters of Tayan Group, where the construction firm expressed readiness to collaborate on initiatives that support inclusive development, particularly within the media sector.
Speaking during the visit, the NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Ms. Grace Ike, commended Tayan Group for its contributions to Abuja’s urban landscape and described the company as a credible player in the real estate industry.
Ike, who represents over 1,500 journalists across the FCT, said the union remains committed to forging partnerships with organisations whose operations align with social responsibility and sustainable development.
She called on Tayan Group to support the completion of the NUJ FCT ultra-modern Congress Hall, which is envisioned as a centre for media training, professional engagement and improved welfare for journalists.
“We are appealing for support in any form—construction materials, technical expertise or other assistance—to enable us complete this project and leave a lasting legacy for journalism in Nigeria,” she said.
The NUJ chairman also highlighted areas of possible collaboration, including media support for Tayan Group’s projects, joint community initiatives on affordable housing and urban development, capacity-building programmes, and mass housing schemes tailored for journalists in Abuja.
She further stressed the importance of the proposed NUJ FCT Journalists Village, describing it as a critical welfare and empowerment initiative for media professionals in the territory.
On affordable housing, Ike expressed optimism that partnerships with reputable developers such as Tayan Group would accelerate the realisation of the Journalists Village for NUJ members.
Responding, the Managing Director of Tayan Group, Mr. Akinjide Fagbemi, welcomed the engagement, describing it as timely and necessary.
He said collaboration with the media was vital to sustainable business growth, noting that visibility and credibility play a critical role in real estate development.
“We believe collaboration is key. No organisation can thrive in isolation, and the media remains one of the strongest pillars supporting our work,” Fagbemi said.
He affirmed the company’s willingness to partner with the NUJ FCT Council, expressing confidence that such collaboration would be mutually beneficial.
On housing delivery, Fagbemi disclosed that Tayan Group offers land and housing solutions across Abuja for various income categories.
“We provide options ranging from as low as ₦600,000 to luxury properties valued above ₦100 million. Our goal is to make home ownership accessible to as many people as possible,” he said.
He also assured NUJ members of flexible payment plans, including instalment options of up to two years for land purchases and extended repayment tenures of up to twenty years through financial institutions.
“Our focus is affordability and flexibility. We understand the realities of earning income, and that understanding reflects in our pricing and payment structures,” he added.
