The Osun State Local Government Service Commission has approved the redeployment of five Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) to new duty posts as tensions over control of council areas continue to grow in the state.

A letter announcing the postings, dated January 26, 2025, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Mudashir Oyedeji, was obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday.

The letter confirmed that the affected career officers were moved from their former local government postings to new councils, although no official reason was given for the decision.

One of the councils affected by the changes is Boripe Local Government, the home area of the immediate past governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola.

According to the letter detailing the new postings, Yakubu Adekunle Oni, currently serving in Irewole North East Local Council Development Authority, has been moved to Boripe Local Government Area.m

According to the letter, all the five new HLAs were moved from the Local Council Development Authority to main council areas.

The letter did not however state where those running the affected councils, where the newly deployed HLAs will serve, before the latest postings will be moving to.

It partly read further, “I wish to inform you that the Local Government Service Commission has approved the deployment of the underlisted Heads of Local Government.

“Bolaji Wasiu Ayoola, Emmanuel Oluwole Ademokoya, Adebisi Lateef Kayode, Yakubu Adekunle Oni, Isaac Tope Akinwumi

“The Officers affected by this deployment are to resume duties with immediate effect.”

The deployment of the HLAs which came amid row involving the Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress over the control of LGAs in the state, generated diverse reactions from supporters of the state governor, Ademola Adeleke and the members of the main opposition party, the APC.

Many APC supporters that reacted to the development, through many social media platforms on Tuesday said it was part of the ploy to force the control of the affected council areas out of the grip of the political office holders currently running them.

However, Adeleke’s supporters dismissed that claim, insisting that the State government, being the employer of civili servant can deploy them whenever it feels there is a need for such.

Adeleke and Osun APC have been trading blames over alleged illegal occupation of council areas in the state by the chairmen and councils councilors elected on the platform of APC.

The PUNCH reports that Adeleke, in a state broadcast on Monday, said the tenure of office of Osun APC elected chairmen and councilors ended on October 25, 2025.

In rejecting the claim, Osun APC alleged that its chairmen and councilors were forced out office by Adeleke in 2022, untill the Court of Appeal, Akure Division on February 10, 2025 returned them back to office, adding that the affected officers are already before the court seeking to determine when their tenure of office starts.
