BREAKING: Fresh signs of reconciliation as Fubara, Wike meets Tinubu in Abuja
Fresh signs of reconciliation have emerged in Rivers State politics following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the ongoing crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Vanguard reports that the President convened a late-night meeting in Abuja, attended by Wike, Fubara, and other key political stakeholders from the state. While the details of the discussion remain undisclosed, sources suggest the talks focused on resolving lingering tensions and fostering political stability in Rivers State.
After the meeting, Governor Fubara reportedly accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, while unconfirmed sources indicate that Fubara pledged to avoid any actions perceived as disrespectful, signalling a potential thaw in relations between the two political heavyweights.
The Rivers political crisis, which erupted shortly after Fubara assumed office, has split the State House of Assembly, triggered impeachment threats, protracted legal battles, and repeated legislative shutdowns. The dispute has largely been attributed to a power struggle over party structures and governance direction.
President Tinubu’s mediation is being seen as a strategic move to restore governance, prevent escalation, and ensure political stability ahead of future party engagements and elections in the oil-rich state.
