Tinubu hosts AFRICOM Chief, US Military Officials in Abuja amid security talks
The meeting included the US Embassy Charge D’Affairs in Nigeria, Keith Heffern, alongside the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and other Nigerian service chiefs.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a meeting with General Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), his delegation, and the US Embassy’s Charge D’Affairs in Nigeria, Keith Heffern, at the State House, Abuja, on Sunday.
The discussions, attended by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and other service chiefs, come days after General Anderson confirmed that the United States had deployed a small team of troops to Nigeria. The deployment follows heightened security cooperation between the two countries.
According to AFRICOM, the recent troop movement was linked to earlier discussions between General Anderson and President Tinubu during their meeting in Rome, Italy, last year.
The collaboration is part of ongoing efforts by Nigeria and the United States to address rising attacks by terrorists and violent groups across the country.
As at the time of filing this report, the specifics of the meeting’s agenda and outcomes were yet to be disclosed by either party.
