A yet-to-be-identified man has reportedly fallen off a moving train and died at Uratta in Aba, Abia State, along the Enugu–Port Harcourt motorway.

Eyewitnesses told Very Nigerian that the man, believed to be in his late 30s, was sitting on top of a commercial train conveying passengers from Aba to Port Harcourt when the incident happened.

Sources said the victim lost his balance and fell from the moving train, leading to his death.

It was gathered that sitting on top of moving commercial trains has remained a common practice along the Aba–Port Harcourt rail line, despite the risks involved. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.

The eyewitnesses disclosed that the victim lost balance while the train was in motion and died instantly due to the impact.

“The man was sitting on top of the train with other passengers. He lost balance and fell on the tracks and died instantly due to the impact. No man stood a chance of survival after hitting the rail track filled with sharp objects. Nobody has been able to identify him,” the witnesses said.

As of the time of filing, the victim’s corpse had been removed from the rail track in Uratta Road.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Railway Police at Eziama station, Aba, were unsuccessful.
