Tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday when a hit-and-run driver reportedly killed a female pedestrian at the NYSC Bus Stop inward Igando area of Lagos State.

The deceased was identified as a member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM). She was said to be on her way to a worship service at the church in Igando when the incident occurred.

According to reports, the woman was fatally struck by the driver of a Mercedes-Benz C-300, who allegedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which confirmed the incident, said the accident happened at the busy bus stop in the early hours of the day.

revealed that the deceased was navigating the designated pedestrian corridor when the vehicle, under circumstances yet to be ascertained, veered into her pathway with devastating and irreversible consequences.

“Upon receipt of distress alerts, LASTMA personnel stationed along the Igando axis responded with commendable alacrity and operational proficiency.

“Demonstrating tactical coordination and adherence to established emergency response protocols, the officers promptly cordoned off the accident scene to forestall secondary collisions and ensure the safety of other road users.

“Vehicular movement within the corridor was meticulously regulated to prevent congestion and additional hazards, while requisite safety procedures were immediately activated.

“In a deeply reprehensible development, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz C-300 absconded from the scene upon recognizing the fatal outcome of the collision.

“This act of flight not only compounds the gravity of the tragedy but also constitutes a flagrant violation of statutory and civic obligations incumbent upon motorists involved in traffic incidents.”

The accident vehicle was subsequently, evacuated from the carriageway by LASTMA operatives in strategic collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division.

The coordinated inter-agency intervention facilitated the prompt restoration of normal vehicular flow and public order within the affected vicinity.

In a profoundly heartrending turn of events, news of the tragedy reached the MFM Church during service, where the victim’s husband was already present among fellow congregants.

Overcome with anguish, he and members of the church community proceeded to the scene and respectfully conveyed the remains of the deceased for necessary rites.

The police have commenced thorough investigation with the aim to apprehend the fleeing driver and be brought to book appropriately in line with extant traffic and criminal statutes.

Bakare-Oki, therefore, expressed profound condolences to the bereaved family and extended heartfelt sympathies to the entire MFM Church community.

Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s unwavering commitment to the preservation of human life and the strict enforcement of traffic discipline across Lagos roadways.

While, stressing the outcome of the ongoing police investigation to guide the government’s subsequent course of action, LASTMA boss, however, admonished motorists to exercise heightened vigilance, adhere strictly to statutory speed regulations and demonstrate unequivocal respect for pedestrian rights at all times.
