BREAKING: Osun Speaker, 24 lawmakers dump PDP for Accord Party
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, alongside 24 other serving lawmakers, on Friday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party.
The decision followed a meeting held at the Assembly complex on Friday evening, where the legislators resolved to move to the new party.
A senior source disclosed that the lawmakers decided to align politically with Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had earlier left the PDP for the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
One of the lawmakers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the planned defection had been under consideration since the governor joined the Accord Party in November, but a final decision was reached after recent developments involving adjustments to the general election timetable.
Confirming the development, the Speaker’s spokesperson, Mr Olamide Tiamiyu, said 25 out of the 26 members of the Assembly had officially joined the Accord Party.
He added that more details on the mass defection would be made public in due course.
